Kuruva Island

Hidden deep within the east-flowing Kabani river are a group of islands known as Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island, home to rare species of plants and animals.

The 950 - acre protected river delta in Wayanad mesmerises tourists with its evergreen forests and all-pervasive silence. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. Exotic species of birds, orchids and medicinal plants make this uninhabited island a treasure trove. Travellers use fibre boats and bamboo rafts to get to the islands which are surrounded by naturally clean water. The island is also ideal for leisurely nature walks apart from hiking excursions. The variety of flora and fauna draw researchers and nature lovers in equal numbers. Officials of the forest department take great care to safeguard and maintain the natural beauty of the islands. December to April are the ideal months to visit this island.
