Situated 2,100 m above sea level, this peak offers a breathtaking view of the picturesque region. The trek requires a drive up to the parking spot near a watchtower from where jeeps are available to the starting point. A heart-shaped lake, known as Chembra Peak Lake, also called Hridaya Thadakam in Malayalam, is enroute the peak. Waterfalls and lush greenery are aplenty. Legend has it that Goddess Sita took a bath in the lake. No summer can cause the lake to dry out. The charm of hills, valleys and tea plantations together make Chembra Peak truly alluring.
The trek consists of two sections, from the drop-off point in the jeep to the lake and onward to the peak. The latter half of the trek has now been restricted due to wildlife activities. The panoramic views offer great photo opportunities. A popular spot, permission is to be obtained from the forest department for trekking while guided tours are also available. The length of the actual trek is around 3 - 3.5 km and can take about 45 minutes.
